The Kuopio City Theatre is among the most important cultural facilities of the Kuopio region in Finland. The theatre was built in 1963 and has been in full operation since.

The ravages of time have left their marks on the building and its technical systems. Planning for the renovation is in progress and construction will start in 2012. An additional side stage and storage areas will be built next to theatre and connected to main building by a new foyer and a loading area on the back of the building.
